Macau Marathon
Runners are never far from the sea in the Macau Marathon. The marathon route is twice the Half Marathon course, which means following the waterfront
for much of the way and crossing the spectacular 2.2km Ponte de Sai Van bridge four times.
Macau Marathon began in 1981 and has had many course changes through the years but it has always been a run between mainland Macau and the
islands of Taipa and Coloane.
The marathon, half marathon and 5k mini marathon attracts runners from Macau, Hong Kong, mainland China and throughout the world. This year's
winner was Ethiopian runner Yemane Tsegay Adhane in a time of 02:15:06.
Sydney Marathon
There's a distance for all ages and abilities - and that has made the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival Australia's largest annual running festival in just eight years. The event attracted more than 25,000 runners from 40 countries and raised more than $A1 million for various charities.
Sydney's iconic Harbour Bridge and Opera House are key features of the festival runs which offer participants a full or half marathon, 9km harbour bridge run and 4km family fun run. All events began at Milsons Point, crossed the Harbour Bridge and ended at the Opera House. Only the distances in between altered, with the marathon following the waterfront, then returning and heading inland past Randwick Racecourse and around Centennial Park before the finish back at the waterfront.
Singapore Marathon
Two new records have delighted organisers of the Singapore Marathon. The first occurred four weeks before race registrations closed when the target of 48,000 participants was reached. The decision to allow a further 2,000 registrations meant 50,000 runners lined up at the start of the marathon, half marathon and 10k events.
The second came at the finish when Kenyan Luke Kibet knocked almost a minute and a half off the course record, crossing the line in 2h13.01s.
The race started by the Esplanade Bridge, followed the waterfront, headed out to East Coast Park and finished in The Padang.
Athens Classic Marathon
There is something special about finishing a marathon in a significant venue. In Athens there is nothing more significant or appropriate than the marble Panathinaikon Stadium built for the first of the modern Olympics in 1896.
Runners followed in the footsteps of the soldier who, in 490BC, ran from the town of Marathon to Athens to deliver a message of victory in battle.
Their route included a circuit of the original battle site past the memorial and soldiers' tomb. Further on the course offered picturesque sea views before heading into Athens and a personal victory at the stadium.
In 2010 Athens will celebrate 2500 years since that original epic run.
Airtel Delhi Half Marathon
The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon which was positioned as the richest and the most prestigious half marathon in the world was ably justified by Ethiopian Deriba Mergia who finished in a time 0:59:15 which is the fastest time for 2008. This IAAF Gold Label Road Race also provided the thousands of spectators with 2 further sub 60 minute finishes, which reiterates the growing stature of this outstanding Event.
Over 25,000 participants lined up at Vinay Marg on Sunday morning to compete in the main half marathon event as well as the shorter Delhi Great Run.
It was also as much a visual delight with the heritage structures of Parliament & India Gate providing the perfect backdrop. One had to be there to witness the rich, diverse culture & tradition that India has to offer.
The photos here are a testimony to that. Do check them out
Birmingham Half Marathon
Around 8,000 runners participated in the inaugural EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon on Sunday October 26. This 13.1 mile road race which was organised by Birmingham City Council and sponsored by EDF Energy, started at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium with runners making there way into the city centre along the A34.
The Mens winner Andi Jones crossed the line in 1.05.42 and the Womens winner Birhan Dagne finished in 1.17.40.
